Program Director Employment and Salary

Program directors are a necessary part of the music production process. They are the ones who select and organize the music that is to be played on the air at certain times of the day. Without the work of the program directors and radio stations, it would be a very quiet car ride to and from work. Every radio station has at least one program director, so there are jobs available in this field. To advance your career as a program director you can either move on to a larger radio station that controls multiple stations and broadcasts to a larger audience or you can become the station’s general manager. Advancement will depend on your years of experience and the competition for the job. The salary range for a program director is between $27,000 to $100,000 annually. What you are paid depends on several factors including where the station is located and its ratings as well as your education and years of experience.
