Hello fellow whistlers!
I'm happy to announce that i've been selected to whistle the Star Spangled Banner tonight at our Arkansas Naturals Baseball Stadium (Arvest Ballpark). Auditions were held for singers a few months ago, but I showed up to whistle instead. As was expected, the judges in charge weren't quite sure what to say when i told them i'd like to whistle the anthem. They hesitantly agreed to let me once i told them i'd also be doing a vocal audition. needless to say, they were rather impressed :) and i was given two different dates to perform - one whistling and one singing. Tonight is the night for my whistled performance. I'm not sure how many people will be at the game. But, this should be my largest single audience to date. I've whistled for 1,000 several times at Christmas Candlelight Services at the local University, and once at my own college graduation I whistled the anthem for around 2,000. This will certainly "blow" those numbers away :)

If anyone lives in the area, i'd love to see you out at the ballgame tonight. Springdale, AR 7:00pm

Hi Dave,
Thanks for reading and replying to my post! I'd be happy to answer your questions.

1. I whisted without any accompaniment, completely a cappela.
2. as critical of myself as I am, i actually think it went rather well. i was pleased with the fun level of both reverb and stadium echo that i had to work with. intonation was tricky but i was happy with that as well.
3. the audience was almost completely silent!! my parents had season tickets to the games and went all the time that season. my dad told me after that it was the quietest he had EVER heard the crowd for any of the national anthems. and i was VERY pleased myself with the crowd's reaction. great applause and cheering, and then several people found me afterward to give comments.

in other words, i'd totally recommend you whistling the anthem for a stadium sometime soon :)

WOW! That's awesome!! I have always had a crazy thought that it would be so cool to whistle the national anthem at a sporting event. Sorry I'm just now seeing this post so much later!

I have a few questions for you:

1. Did you whistle to accompaniment, a backing track, or...? Or completely a capela?
2. How did it go?
3. Did the audience sing along?
